France’s corn harvest was 84% complete as of 5 October 2026, up from 67% a week earlier, according to FranceAgriMer’s Céré’Obs crop monitoring report. Winter wheat planting reached 4% and winter barley 7%, both behind last year’s pace.

How far has the French corn harvest progressed?

Corn harvesting advanced by 17 percentage points during the week, leaving 16% of the area still to be harvested.

Harvest progress shows how much of the corn area has been harvested. Faster progress alone does not establish the size or quality of the crop, or how much corn is available for sale.

Winter wheat and barley planting gets underway

French winter wheat planting stood at 4% of the intended area, while winter barley reached 7%. Both also trailed their five-year averages of 6% and 12%, respectively.

These are early planting figures. Subsequent reports will show whether the gap narrows as sowing advances; the current figures alone do not establish a reduction in planted area or future yields.

What does it mean for traders and processors?

For grain traders, harvest progress helps assess when new-crop French corn may become available for collection and shipment. Actual availability still depends on yields, quality and farmers’ willingness to sell.

For feed manufacturers and other corn processors, the update is relevant to near-term procurement and delivery planning. Buyers need to assess harvest progress alongside supplier offers, specifications and transport availability.

Further planting updates will show whether wheat and barley sowing catches up. It is still too early to assess the impact on next season’s supply or grain prices.
