USDA announced US soybean export sales of 558,000 tonnes to China and 236,000 tonnes to unknown destinations on 16 October 2026. Private exporters also reported 127,000 tonnes of corn sold to Japan. All three sales are for delivery during the 2026/27 marketing year.
What did USDA’s export sales announcement include?
Commodity | Destination | Volume | Marketing year |
Soybeans | China | 558,000 tonnes | 2026/27 |
Soybeans | Unknown destinations | 236,000 tonnes | 2026/27 |
Corn | Japan | 127,000 tonnes | 2026/27 |
The soybean sales totalled 794,000 tonnes. China accounted for approximately 70% of that volume. USDA did not identify the destination of the remaining 236,000 tonnes, which should be kept separate from the confirmed Chinese purchases.
What does it mean for traders and processors?
For soybean traders, the Chinese purchase adds to confirmed demand for US supplies. Follow-up sales announcements and weekly export data will help establish whether buying continues and how commitments translate into shipments.
For soybean crushers and corn processors buying US supplies, export demand is relevant to procurement costs and availability. The practical effect on their purchases will depend on delivery periods, sourcing locations, local basis and freight.
USDA did not disclose shipment dates or prices. Buyers will need to follow export shipments and physical offers to assess any effect on their purchasing costs.
